About
Alexx Mayes specializes in the exploration of the human psyche, fusing the fundamentals of multiple disciplines within the field to create genre-defying art via multisensory mediums resulting in narrative-rich imagery. As a photographer, digital artist and cinematographer, she brings a layered approach to her work, capturing details with a myriad of perspectives. While born in South Dakota, Alexx embraced Nevada as her artistic home and primary source of inspiration during her teenage and early adult years. Her work skillfully navigates the juxtaposition between classic Americana themes and the gritty realities of urban and suburban life. As a philosophical artist she strives to capture the rhythm and contrast of society within the lens of surreal existentialism, exposing an ever-shifting culture to introspection and subverting the status quo with real, thought provoking pieces. Shaping her art from a perspective of feminism, bauhaus and dadaism, she incorporates surrealist and pop art techniques in such a way to inflict real change with powerful imagery. With such bombastic and intricate art, she hopes to affect the stream of cultural consciousness in a way to inspire a progressive future. Alexx has fashion photography published in Vogue Italia, Ukraine, Hong Kong and Mexico, along with Women’s Wear Daily US, Japan, and Hong Kong. Not to be isolated to a single perspective, her astrophotography was published on Space.com for her scientific work with SpaceX, and won the Philosopher’s Choice Award for her pieces on the subject of the American Dream in Reno. She has also received grants from the National Endowments for the Arts regarding her conceptual projects based on technological singularity. Alexx's work has been shown at the John and Geraldine Lilley Museum of Art, Sierra Arts Foundation, Reno Fine Arts Collective, and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. She is currently working in fashion and event photography in New York City & Los Angeles. |
